No, it isn't. I live in America. Although the slaughter houses have been shut down, it is still legal to trnasport horses to other countries to be slaughtered. A new law might make even that illegal, but Bush has promised he'll veto it, which is why we need to act now.

What county do you live in? If you live in America, you might want to double check. If you live in another country, I wish you were right! :'(

As far as I know, there a 2 or three slaughter houses in the U.S. but I'm not positive on their locations. The August 07 Equus magazene has some information in it and they seem to follow the progress of anti-horse slaughter closely. They also have wagonloads of good info.

Horse slaughter IS illegal in the United States. BUT there are shipments made to other countries. Most of the horses are weak and dying. I'm not saying it's right, I'm not saying it's wrong. In other countries eating horses is just like in the U.S eating cows.
And there are MUCH more than two or three slaughter houses in the U.S. Much more. They are just not allowed to slaughter horses now.

I have to check, but I think there are 3 slaughter horses left. But abuse still goes on. I've seen horses being abused and I've ridden abused horses. My last horse, for instance, was abused, He was off the race track. Most abuse happens at the track. I hate the racing industry. There are only about 5 or so farms who are actually kind to their animals.

No, horse slaughter is still going. The Illionois plant still hasn't shut down, I think it hasn't. The latest I've read says it hasn't. I may be wrong, but transpotation still counts as it being legal, it's still awful.

Hey all, I'm new here and still trying to figure out how this forum works...but thought I'd catch you all up to date a little. There were 3 slughterplant in America that got shut down this past year, noe are in operation today. However, slaughter is still legal in the USA, just not at the 3 plants that were shut down. It can still be opened in another state, but hopefully the citizens of America can and will stop them before anyone does. The state of SD only recently voted against opening a proposed slaughter plant there.
Now, there is one being proposed in the 4 corners region on American Indian Reservations, which would be exempt ftom US rulings.
